FACILITIES
Biology Laboratories
The College Biology Laboratories are found
at the 2nd floor of the John J. Phelan, S.J. Science Hall. They
offer well-ventilated lecture and workrooms with good facilities
and complete laboratory equipment and chemicals. They cater to subjects
such as:Microbiology and Parasitology, Animal and Plant Physiology,
Marine Biology, Genetics, General Biology, General Zoology, Field
Ecology, Cell and Molecular Biology. They provide students with
necessary knowledge, research skills and wide understanding of life
and its natural environment, and offer a diverse range of services
to meet students' needs.
Chemistry Laboratories
The College Chemistry laboratories are located
at the 3rd floor of the John J. Phelan, S.J. Science Hall. They
are provided with an office space for the Laboratory Custodian and
Chemistry Teachers. The laboratories provide opportunities for hands-on
experience using the acid-resistant fiberglass table top area which
is fully equipped with pegboard, electrical, water and gas outlets.
A standard Fume Hood is installed in each laboratory to protect
laboratory users from potential chemical exposure as well as for
efficient operation.
The laboratories give enriching environment
for scientific application of chemistry concepts. All the facilities
available are intended to meet the needs of the users in discovering
the magic of chemistry.
Speech Laboratories
The Speech Lab has MAG d410, LG Studio works
and Monitor–view sonic that students and teachers can make
use of. Through these facilities students are provided with good
models of the language/s being studied. They are also able to listen
to their communicative, particularly oral competence. These laboratories
are used by the Oral Communication and other languages classes.
College Reading Center
The College Reading Center, which offers
the Science Research Associates (SRA) in Reading Laboratory Program,
a multilevel, almost self-operating program, is one of the university's
responses to the students' continuing deterioration in English communication.
With this program it is hoped that students would imbibe the habit
of reading that would test, challenge, and further improve their
comprehension, it, being the prime requirement in most academic
work. The program is expected to enable the students to benefit
optimally from any subject they enroll in and avert the high rate
of failure in subjects that require higher comprehension skills.
The SRA in Reading Program responds to various
educational needs of students by providing activities that develop
comprehension skills, provide reinforcement on specific skills in
which students may show a weakness i.e., vocabulary, word analysis,
and study skills, improve reading rate, provide practice in independent
work, encourage a sense of personal responsibility, exercise active
listening, and affirm personal achievement.
Media Studies Laboratory
The Media Laboratory is equipped with computers
for non-linear editing of audio and video as well as for desktop
work (news editing, layouting, and encoding). Also, it has video
and recording equipment and facilities like the video cameras, spotlights,
tape recorders, recording room, overhead projectors made available
for students.
