Continuing Voters' Education

As a follow-up to the teachers' training held last year, the University Social Involvement Council  Committee on Socio-Political Education, Advocacy and Involvement (USIC-CSPEAI) together with the Social Sciences Department continue their campaign for a clean and responsible 2010 National Elections by developing the Voters' Education Module. The last event regarding its development through practice and consultation was held last 8 December 2010 at the Arrupe Convention Hall.

Mr. Rene Gumba of the Institute of Politics with Mr. Ramon Beleno III of the Social Sciences Department facilitated the training of more than thirty (30) volunteers coming from the faculty (from Social Sciences, Education, and Philosophy), college office (Center for Community Development), and student body (Ateneans and guests).

In the afternoon, the volunteers were sent to different classrooms to conduct a prototype discussion of the Voters' Education Module. For an hour and a half, the discussions revolved around the understanding of the Philippine Context, the 2010 Elections, and the Planning/Commitment session.

After the dry-run of the module, the volunteers went back to the Arrupe Convention Hall to discuss how it could be improved and to sign up to their areas where they would conduct voters' education. Atty. Mila Raquid-Arroyo, Director of the University Social Involvement Council, then discussed the future activities of the USIC-CSPEAI regarding the 2010 Elections such as the Presidential Forum (from January to May) before officially closing the day-long event.
