Letter of the High School Principal
Dear Friends :
May we all be filled with graces throughout the year.
I wish to thank all of you who welcomed Fr. Tabora and me to your homes and to your gatherings.
I have been home for over a week now and have been able to make up for most chores and tasks left behind, and then brace myself for major activities ahead.
- On January 29-30, seven administrators from mostly different Manila schools——compose the team of the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) that will resurvey our High School for already the 6th re-accreditation since 1978.
- Our juniors and seniors—yes, boys and girls!—are all excited for their JS Prom on February 7.
- And, all administrators, teachers, and students are all preparing for the all integrating, all culminating Pistaym 10 on February 7-14, a week of competitions in 34 field and indoor sports, academic, musical, cultural, and public speaking events. In Pistaym, every single student is a contestant, entry or player.
This Saturday, January 17, the first batch of applicants to our freshman year will take the Ateneo Entrance and Scholarship Examinations. About 450 first year applicants normally take the exams on the first examination day. About the same number take the entrance examinations at later dates the rest of the year and during the summer. About 600 of these applicants qualify for admission. More than 100 of them apply for scholarships and grants-in-aid. For next school year, we are ready with only 70 scholarships and grants-in-aid slots available for new students. These come from the scholarships and grants from the seniors who are graduating two months from now. This leaves us about 40 applicants with no scholarships or grants available.
This is why we are going around begging for these students to whom we wish to extend Ateneo education. This is why we went to see you for help. We ask you to support Bicolano students through the Golden Knight or Four Pillars scholarship schemes or any amount that you can regularly donate to a general fund for the same purpose. We ask you further to encourage similar support from other alumni as well as friends of the Ateneo who were not in our small group meetings.
Again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Sincerely,
GREGORIO RE ABONAL
Principal
