CHED designates ADNU College of Education as Center of Excellence
The Ateneo de Naga University College of Education was designated by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as a Center of Excellence (COE) in Teacher Education for exhibiting the highest degree of standards along the areas of instruction, research and extension.
A team of assessors from the Technical Panel for Teacher Education had their ocular visit last May 8-10, 2008 where they validated the documents submitted, interviewed key administrators, students and alumni. They also inspected laboratories. Dr. Angelita Romero, Academic Vice President of the Philippine Normal University chaired the team. Other members were Drs. Gladys C. Nivera, Rose Mercado and Milagros Esparrago.
The following areas were looked into by the team of assessors: (1) administration towards quality programs, (2) faculty resources, (3) information technology capability, (4) curriculum, (5) laboratories, (6) student support system, (7) performance of graduates in the licensure examination, (8) tracer study, (9) research and publications, (10) institutional qualification of the College of Education, (11) extension and linkages, and (12) faculty lineup.
The ADNU College of Education as COE was given recognition for its institutional leadership in curriculum management, credible performance of its graduates in the licensure examinations as well as its effective response to the continuing professional development of teachers in the whole Region.
Through its vigorous network arrangements, the College ensures the accelerated development of other teacher training institutions in the different service areas, and facilitates the delivery of relevant faculty development initiatives for the benefit of teachers both in the private and public schools. Furthermore, the development of instructional materials and relevant publications is an emerging “competence niche” of its pool of faculty.
