The winning streak continues:
IRA SHEENA HOWARD is one of TOSP

Following Ateneo de Naga University’s historic achievement last year of claiming two of the Ten Outstanding Students in the Philippines (TOSP) is another winning streak for the University as Batch 2008 Valedictorian IRA SHEENA C. HOWARD becomes fifth in ADNU’s history to be conferred with such honor.

Howard, an education graduate, was declared as one of the TOSP during the awarding ceremonies held last July 17 in Malacañang. Together with her were her mother, Dr. Maria Nenia C. Howard, the Dean of the College of Education, Dr. Arnulfo Aaron R. Reganit, as well as her family and friends. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the Guest of Honor, personally conferred to her the award.

She was earlier proclaimed by the TOSP Regional Selection as one of three outstanding students in the regional level and official contestants to the national screening. She competed against other regional finalists nationwide in the Teacher Education category. From thirty (30) finalists, Howard was finally chosen as one of the ten winners after a national interview conducted last July 15 at RFM Corporate Center, Mandaluyong City. She was the only one from the Bicol Region who made it to the Search.

Howard keeps a remarkable account as a successful student, keeping a balance in her academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular involvements as well as in community service which gave her an edge in the Search. She served as President of the Supreme Student Government for the school year 2007-2008; President of the Samahan ng mga Tagapagtaguyod ng Edukasyong Pilipino (STEP), the co-curricular organization of education students; and as Officer and volunteer of other notable organizations in and outside the University.

In 2007, Howard impressively swept two feats: the first was her being selected as one of the delegates to the 10th Ayala Young Leaders Congress and the other was her triumph as one of the Jose Rizal Model Students of the Philippines.

She was undisputedly the most awarded graduate during the 58th Commencement Exercises last March 2008, reaping not only the Valedictorian honors but also a string of other important awards, namely: Cum Laude, St. Ignatius of Loyola General Excellence Gold Medallion Award, Achievement Award, Leadership Award and Bro. Sergio Adriatico Fifth Pillar Gold Medallion Service Award.
