Commerce Dean and Chairpersons attend
the Asian Regional Meeting of IAJBS

Dr. Debbie Abiog-Adriano, the Dean of the College of Commerce, together with Mrs. Helenita Q. Ruiz and Ms. Maria Cristina M. Delos Santos, the Chairpersons for Accountancy and Business Administration respectively, attended the Asian Regional Meeting of the International Association of Jesuit Business Schools (IAJBS) last August 31 to September 3, 2008 at the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU). This was the first-ever Regional Meeting of the Deans of Jesuit Business Schools in Asia.  The main objective of the meeting was to establish connections and see if there are any opportunities for collaboration within the Jesuit network.

The Regional Meeting commenced with a half-day city tour for the delegates and was followed by a Welcome Dinner hosted by the office of Dr. Antonette Palma-Angeles, ADMU’s Academic Vice President.    The second day started off with a Welcome Remarks from ADMU President, Fr. Bienvenido F. Nebres, S.J. followed by the Keynote Speech from Dr. Howard Tuckman, of Fordham University Graduate School of Business and the President of IAJBS.  After which an introduction of the IAJBS, its mission, goals, projects, and websites were delivered by Dr. Greg Ulferts, of the University of Detroit Mercy and Executive Director of IAJBS.  The venues for the 2009 World Forum in Jamshedpur, India and the 2010 World Forum in Manila were announced.  This was followed by a round table discussion on the following topics: What is “Jesuit” About my Business School; Applying Service Learning in our Classrooms; and Social Entrepreneurship or Corporate Social Responsibility.  Afterwards, the participants had a Business Meeting which dealt with the following areas for future collaboration:  Students and faculty exchange, Research, Service Learning, and joint study tour.  Finally, a farewell dinner was hosted by the Ateneo de Manila Graduate School of Business to end the meeting. A full-day tour to see the scenic Taal Volcano was also arranged during the last day of the meeting.
