The Ateneo de Naga University Social Involvement Council-Governance Cluster (USIC-GC) and Center for Local Governance (CLG) conducted the last run of the Training on Administration of Justice and Promotion of Community Peace in the Barangay in the Local Government Unit of Sañgay, Camarines Sur. Over 30 Lupon members coming from the following pilot barangays Atulayan, Bongalon, Nato and Sto. Niño actively participated in the training.
The activity aims to: (1) let the participants know and understand the philosophy and principles behind the establishment of the Katarungang Pambarangay; (2) determine the role of the Katarungang Pambarangay in the facilitation of Justice in the community; (3) guide the officers of the barangay and members of the Lupong Tagapamayapa on how to effectively carry-out their mission; and (4) determine the jurisdiction of the barangay in cases offered for resolutions in the barangay level.
A thorough discussion of the Katarungang Pambarangay covering the Composition, Powers and Duties, Qualifications and Functions of Lupong Tagapamayapa including Alternative Dispute Resolution and Mediation and Bill of Rights were presented by the trainer. Case analyses were also used in the conduct of the said training.
Mr. Ramon B. Beleno III, Chairperson of Social Sciences Department was the trainer of the said activity. He was assisted by the following student-facilitators: Kristine Busadre, Michael B. Dapadap, Mark Anthony B. Oliva, and Ayra Ginica E. Tortoles of Liga ng mga Estudyante ng Agham Pampulitka (LEAP). The training was held at the Liga ng mga Barangay Session Hall of the Local Government Unit of Sañgay, Camarines Sur last 8-9 October, 2009. The activity was successfully implemented in coordination with the Local Government Unit of Sañgay, headed by the Local Chief Executive Hon. Roberto A. Briones.
