19 November 2009 - Pixels, in 2-D and 3-D, rained all over the Arrupe Convention Hall as the Ateneo Digital Arts and Animation Festival 2009 (ADAAF 09) officially opened.
To formally start the event, a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held with Fr. Joel Tabora, S.J., University President, snipping the red fabric. As soon as the room was made available to the public, students flooded the area, instantly filling up the seats.
Mr. Benedick Bana, Moderator of the Digital Artists' League of the Ateneo, provided the opening remarks followed by a message from Dr. Allan Sioson, Dean of the College of Computer Studies. To whet the visual appetite of the audience Mr. Colleth Bozar, a faculty of DACA, provided a preview of the lecture on Saturday while Mr. Magno Conag III, a fellow DACA faculty, gave a preview of the works in the exhibit. A general walkthrough of the entries soon followed.
The ADAAF is a showcase of works from this year's top talents from the Digital Illustration and Animation (DIA) Course. The exhibit will also act as a contest. A ballot box is provided for the students to submit their votes on their favorite works. The categories for this year are: Portfolio, Stop-Motion, Game-Fest, 30s TV Ad, Music Video, and Animated Shorts.
Aside from the exhibit, Mr. Ruark Tapel and Mr. Rhodius Daduya, DIA alumni and New Media Designers, will provide a special lecture regarding the Luxology Modo animation software on 21 November 2009.
