Volunteerism and the Environment

Australian Youth Ambassador for Development (AYAD) Tim O’Mahony, sought the support of the Ateneo de Naga University in organizing a three-part event last Friday, 20 November 2009 from 3 to 6 in the afternoon at the Ateneo Gym.

The event was a lecture-presentation and exhibit which promoted volunteerism in the region and raised awareness about the environment for this year’s International Volunteer Day. US Peace Corp, AYADs and school-based groups had the chance to promote their programs.

Highlights of the event were a presentation and lecture about global warming given by Dr. Emelina Regis of INECAR, a stage-play concerning garbage control and issues arising from improper waste management performed by the Eagles and at five pm, and a Junk-to-funk a video presentation which demonstrated the creativity on how to produce income from waste.

Exhibits of waste management were also displayed at the Gym.
