Mr. Gerona Talks at Masbate Symposium

Professor Madrid Gerona, a widely acclaimed historian, was the foremost speaker in the three (3) part series of symposium organized by the Diocese of Masbate in collaboration with the Local government Units of the said Province. The event is part of the Province's 2nd Galleon Festival.

The first of the threefold series of symposium was held at the Liceo de Masbate Gymnasium, Masbate City on September 23, 2008. While the third and last will be on November 17, 2008 at Ticao Island. At the “Simposio”, the second of the series, Professor Gerona awed the audience in the jam packed San Pascual Parish Church  at Burias Island when he spoke of the eventful details in the San Pascual Town's history as well as its church, which is dubbed as Bicol's oldest and the country's second  oldest.

The said Series of Symposium is grounded on the theme “Stewardship”, a theme that quite suites the 40th Founding Anniversary of the Diocese.

Professor Gerona has done various researches and is an expert on the 15th -18th century Spanish colonial years in the Philippines. He is a regular lecturer on numerous Historian's Convention both local and international. He has a Doctorate Degree in Philosophy from the University of the Philippines, Diliman and is currently a faculty member of the Ateneo de Naga University.
