Faculty Member of the Psychology Dept.
Presents a Paper on “Loob and colors”

Gayle Abonal-Gomez*,  a faculty member of the Psychology department  and a professional staff at the Center for Psychological Services (CPS) of the University, presented a paper on “Loob and colors” at the 33rd conference of the Samahang Sikolohiyang Pilipino yesterday, 21 November at the Holy Angel University, Pampanga.  The same paper has been presented at the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP) held at Davao City last August 14-16, 2008.  The said paper is one of the many works in collaboration with Fr. Jaime Bulatao, S.J., a luminary in the field of Psychology in the Philippines.

The paper explored on the auras that constitute one’s inner world communicated through colors.  It examined the relationship between “loob” and colors through different descriptors and 7 colors.  Using cluster analysis, the colors violet, indigo and blue all grouped with the “loob” factor “mapagtotoo,” while red and orange clustered with the factor “matibay” and “hindi malambot.”  The findings showed that individuals may have the tendency to relate colors with certain characteristics or traits.  Colors may then represent certain qualities that we intuit another person.
