Training on Administration of Justice and Promotion of Community Peace in the Barangay in LGU-Cabusao & LGU-Buhi

The Ateneo de Naga University through University Social Involvement Council-Governance Cluster and the Center for Local Governance headed by Dr. Malu C. Barcillano conducted the Training on Administration of Justice and Promotion of Community Peace in the Barangay for the pilot barangays of the Municipalities of Cabusao and Buhi, represented by its Local Chief Executives, Hon. Norberto U. Genova and Hon. Rey P. Lacoste, respectively. This is in accordance with the agreement which surfaced during the Consultation Meeting conducted by the Cluster during the month of May with the stakeholders of the said partner communities.

The objectives of the two-day training are the following:

  • To be able to know and understand the philosophy and principles behind the establishment of the Katarungang Pambarangay;
  • To be able to determine the role of the Katarungang Pambarangay in the facilitation of justice in the community;
  • To guide the officers of the barangay  and members of lupon on how to effectively carry out their missions;
  • To determine the jurisdiction of the barangay in cases offered for resolution in the barangay level.

The training was first held on November 11-12, 2008 at the ABC Hall of the Municipality of Cabusao. This was participated by the Punong Barangays and Lupong Tagapamayapa members from the five pilot barangays namely: Barcelonita, Biong, Castillo, Sta. Cruz and Pandan.

The same training was also conducted in the Municipality of Buhi which was held at the Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall on November 17-18, 2008. The participating barangays were Antipolo, Gabas, Sagrada Familia, Sta. Cruz and Sta. Justina. 

The training was conducted by Mr. Ramon B. Beleno III, the newly appointed Chairperson of the Social Sciences Department and was assisted by Celeste C. Dizon, MPA Student and by John Edward B. Alejo and Japhet Paolo Quian, AB Political Science Students.
