Training on Barangay Legislation
in LGU-Calabanga and LGU-Sagñay

The Training on Barangay Legislation was identified to be one of the two capability-building activities needed by the following partner communities of the University: Cabusao, Calabanga and Sagñay.

With this, the University through the University Social Involvement Council-Governance Cluster together with the Center for Local Governance headed by Dr. Malu C. Barcillano  conducted them in the Local Government Unit of Calabanga represented by Hon. Evelyn S. Yu on November 13-14, 2008 and in the Local Government Unit of Sagñay represented by Hon. Roberto A. Briones on November 20-21, 2008. The same activity was also conducted in the Municipality of Cabusao on September 1-2, 2008.

Also, the said activity was participated by the Sangguniang Barangay members from the following pilot barangays of the partner communities:  Balatasan, Balongay, Dominorog, Punta Tarawal and San Bernardino of the LGU-Calabanga and  Atulayan, Bongalon, Mabca, Nato and Sto. Niño of LGU-Sagñay.

The trainings conducted aimed:

  • To enhance the skills/capabilities of Barangay leaders to enact Barangay Ordinances/ Resolutions for the benefit of their respective Barangays and the welfare of their constituents;
  • To expose the Barangay leaders to the legal process and requirements in enacting Barangay Ordinances/Resolutions in their respective Barangays; and
  • To minimize if not totally eliminate the enactment, approval and implementation of a defective Barangay Ordinance/Resolution.

Mr. Florante L. Belleza, Jr., a faculty member from the Department of Business Administration of the College of Commerce conducted the training. He was assisted by the following students-facilitators who are from the Legal Management Cluster of the Department of Business Administration: Marlon Antonio; Ayla Marie Lunar; Herold  Pelonio; Mary Grace Rivera; Juan Paolo Rubio and Juvirose Tonga.
