Seniors’ Career Days 2008 Successfully Held
The College Guidance Center - Career Placement Program Office of the University spearheaded this year’s Seniors’ Career Days (SCD) Program dubbed HEADSTART: Meeting the Real World held last November 24-29, 2008.
Nine hundred sixty-three or 96% of the expected graduating students from all colleges attended the activity which aimed to respond to their essential concerns on dealing with the challenges of the real world – winning over the ordeals of life after graduation, developing the needed skills and competencies for effective job search, landing on the right job and managing to survive in their first work.
Several activities, workshops, talks and discussions were designed to help graduating students become aware of their own selves, personality traits and work preferences, gain insights and develop skills on writing winning resumes, handling job interviews, managing salary negotiations, knowing the basic work standards, etiquettes and other guidelines on successful job search prior to their immersion to the world of work.
A plenary session which was attended by 459 graduating students from the different colleges was also held last Friday, November 28, at the Arrupe Convention Hall. Resource speakers were invited to discuss on two (2) special topics particularly on the Policies and Procedures of the Civil Service Commission, which was very helpful especially for those who would decide to go into government service after graduation, and on Labor Laws which aimed to familiarize the participants with their basic rights as employees.
The evaluation of the participants for the SCD revealed that they were generally satisfied with the preparation, actual conduct and outcome of the event.
A University Job Fair shall be held on February 2-3, 2009 at the Xavier Hall. This shall serve as a venue for the practical application of their learning gained from the conduct of the SCD such that students shall have a first-hand experience on an actual recruitment process to be carried-out by the different participating companies and institutions.
